Speakers profiles

marklaw021. Mark Law

Mark is a Certified Management Consultant, a London Business School graduate and worked for a number of years as a consultant in the engineering and oil industries with Schlumberger. In 1988 he co-founded Advanced Management Skills who are now a leading UK practice specialising in training consultants, value practitioners and change agents. Mark consults extensively in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors with many of the world’s leading blue chip organisations and consultancies.

Title of the talk: How to jump start your career in consulting

Content: Consulting is one of the most interesting, diverse and rewarding professions. Yet it is also one of the most mysterious, confusing and difficult to enter. The rewards can be great: a nice pay cheque, working on headline grabbing issues and the opportunity to make a real contribution to human progress. It also gives us real-world skills that help us future-proof our careers in an uncertain world. Yet consulting can be stressful, highly demanding and disrupt our work/life balance. This lecture explodes many of the myths surrounding the consulting profession and gives participants a practical framework to think about developing their career in this fascinating, challenging and highly rewarding field.

2. Luke Wyszynski

Previously he was a strategic consultant at Boston Consulting Group, working for blue chip clients in the financial services sector. He spent three years in the Ferrari Formula 1 Team as a Development Engineer. Luke holds a DPhil in Engineering Science from Oxford University and a First Class Honours MEng in Engineering from Cambridge University. Recently Luke has joined Spinnaker Capital, a leading European Hedge Fund where he researches and analyses the fund’s private investments. Prior to joining Spinnaker Capital, Luke worked as a Senior Analyst at Hanover Investors, an activist hedge fund focused on corporate turnarounds.

Title of the talk: A career in consulting

Content: In this talk of the evening Luke will be giving us an insight into the world of consulting and the skills he developed while working at one of the top consulting firms in the world.  Luke will specifically be telling us about his experiences working as a consultant for BCG and the skills he gained that can be applied in many other areas.  Also in this presentation Luke will outline some of the career routes you can follow after consulting, focussing in particular on his own experience of gaining a position working for a hedge fund.  To round things off, this presentation will cover the different entry points into consulting.  This presentation is not to missed and will provide a full insight into life before, during and after consulting.

3. Jan Rihak

RIHAK_Jan-6_resizeJan studied computer science at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland. He joined the Mckinsey & Company in 2005, and left for an educational leave 2009 to do a MBA at Judge Business School in Cambridge. Title of the talk: How to tackle a case

2. Case Practice (23rd Nov 2009)

As the time for first round interviews is quickly approaching, many of you would be concerned about ‘cracking the case’, the best way to do this is practice, practice, practice. Not only by yourself but with different people with different opinions, this is exactly what we are offering here!!!  Working our way through  3 case studies in teams of 6 , with professionals on hand to help us out and guide us in the right direction, this is sure to improve this vital skill.

Venue: Judge Business School

Agenda:

6:45 Introduction to Case Practice

7:00 CUCS Case 1 and Case 2

8:00 Accenture Case Study

9:00 End of the event
